In an opening DGI poll, 50% of participating agencies confirmed they currently use or plan to use low code (up 14% from last year!). Keith Nelson with OpenText said “if you take a look at the contracts for federal aid [to adapt and be resilient], it’s over $3B in the last fiscal year, having grown from previous years.” This, he said, “creates opportunities to re-engineer processes around customer needs.” When speaking about the value low code/no code adds, Chris Geer with ServiceNow spoke to the fact that it enables government agencies “to be efficient, and to provide good experiences to not only our workforce, but also to our constituents, the folks we serve.”

Specifically, low code/no code offers government agencies an accelerated way to develop software with a user-friendly graphical interface rather than using traditional hand-coded programs. During this virtual workshop, experts explored the benefits of low code and provided examples of how to incorporate low-code development platforms into agencies’ modernization strategies. They covered topics including:

  • Leveraging AI models to improve software creation
  • Difference between low code and no code
  • Securing the software supply chain
  • Scaling low code without giving up control
  • Five reasons why every agency needs a low-code platform
  • What agencies should do when looking for a low code platform
  • When an app fits a low code approach
  • How low code was applied at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
