Is Low Code for every government agency? The answer is “it depends”. According to Steven Pruskowski with CISA, they help government agencies address “the backlog of citizen requests for capabilities and features…” by using “low code platforms to impact their offices — like modernizing their workflows, automating processes, and the big one, looking at metrics.” Within other large DC institutions, such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, Sr. Application Developer/DevOps Engineer Rayvn Manuel addressed end-user problems by primarily having a conversation with them about what the problems are and looking at “technologies that are continuing to evolve.” Both experts spoke in “fire-side chat” fashion about pros and cons of Low Code, and specifically in greater detail about:

  • Whether or not agencies need to use low code suppliers that are pre-approved by CISA
  • What agencies do if they want a new low code supplier
  • At what point low code becomes the best approach
  • Advice for those agencies contemplating the implementation of low code
  • At what point a workflow “graduates” to a more complex application that requires its own assessment
  • What it means to be a SAFe Developer
  • The analogy of Legos vs. Lincoln Logs
  • How does Low Code fit into the Zero Trust principles
  • How to integrate security into a DevSecOps process
