Modernizing Information and Data Governance

To commemorate “Global Information Governance Day, a number of professionals spoke about how to successfully manage information and data governance. Currently, most “government agencies have a siloed records problem,” says Charlie King, Chief Innovation Officer with Feith Systems. Layered on top of this is the fact that “information is hung up in legacy systems; not just ‘old’ systems, but systems they’re currently using.” Yet another issue, reports Microsoft’s Fola Adeleke-Adedoyin is that “60% of executives believe their processes are too complex.” However, there are service providers like his that can solve these problems. Specifically, he describes one of Microsoft’s objectives, which is to determine “how we can really push government missions forward” and asserts that their approach as “expansive,” “not constrictive.” What are the benefits to agencies who address information and data governance? Iron Mountain’s Sue Trombley lists a few, such as “data privacy compliance, centralized data access, and being AI ready,” among others.

Subject matter experts from these companies as well as the Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) went into greater detail on the subject by presenting on:
