Although Records Management (RM), under that name as a concept is relatively new, it actually has a long-standing history. Kathryn Nevins, former Records Officer with the Defense Department and current Consultant with Feith Systems reminds us that “we started [with RM] in OMB Circular A 130 in 1985 to bring our IT and records people together and streamline our IT.” As the evolution of RM continues, we are in an even newer era where “Zero Click” capabilities are becoming a reality. Until recently, Pagefreezer’s Peter Boulton didn’t even consider the “Zero Click” as a concept, but “after utilizing technologies to help manage records, you can actually reach that “zero click” functionality, he says. These experts and more from MITRE and the DoD came together to further discuss this topic, focusing on the following:

  • Zero-Click Recordkeeping Overview
  • MITRE whitepapers on “Considerations for NARA”
  • Evolution of federal Records Management from its inception to present day
  • Short-term wins and priorities and long-term structural recommendations
  • What it means to use a Universal Records API from Feith Systems
  • Advice for organizations who are in the beginning stages of “Zero Click” RM
  • Challenges with website records, archiving and social media
  • Behind-the-scenes use of RM platform from Pagefreezer
  • Zero Click RM case studies: How federal agencies automate website archiving and FOIA request response with the FDA, Dept. of Education, and HHS
  • DoD CIO Records Strategy Roadmap
  • Automated File Structure and File Clerk Bots Pilots
