Government agencies are at various stages of FOIA automation. “Everyone has their own unique background and workflow,” said Gray Wallington, Sr. Federal Account Executive with Relativity, “which makes it challenging for digitization and automation.” Even though the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has gone from approximately 60% paper requests down to 5%, according to their Assistant General Counsel Abioye E. Masheim, other agencies aren’t quite there. Dan Feith with Feith Systems added, “you have to do products and services that work for decades” in the government sector. Due to this level of complexity and the siloed nature of agencies, DGI convened a number of expert panelists and service providers to address questions and best practices around eDiscovery and FOIA automation, including:

  • FOIA Tech Committee Automation Update
  • how to ease the burden of FOIA requests
  • how to leverage technologies during the onboarding process
  • challenges of siloed agencies with new technologies
  • utilizing e-Discovery software for FOIA initiatives in the post-covid world
  • how to ensure all FOIA professionals can take their lunch hour everyday
  • FOIA pulse check: 2023 focus areas.
