“We are past the point of convincing people that we need to do security,” says Alex Reid with 11:11 Systems. At the same time, he added, “we need to all be on the same page as security practitioners.” So, how do agencies ‘get on the same page’? Just as important as it is to have the right hardware, software, and plan in place, it is equally as important to have the right mindset and galvanize your workforce around cloud and cloud security strategies. Amy Hamilton with the U.S. Department of Energy made this point when she said, “if you are not looking at your people and how to engage your people, it’s going to be difficult.” In this virtual workshop, DGI assembled a number of subject matter experts to address the fundamentals of Cloud Security to meet agency missions and current regulatory obligations. Specifically, there were four sessions and one panel dedicated to covering:

  • how to convince your workforce that the cloud will not put them out of their jobs
  • how to define a threat and the holistic nature of threats
  • NIST Framework
  • the role of data in cloud security and recovery
  • balancing security with flexibility and access
  • security in a decentralized environment
  • the role of IPv6 with cloud security moving forward
  • the convergence of TIC 3.0, FedRAMP, and Zero Trust
  • creating a multi-Layered approach to security.
